Exploring inside Mapperley train tunnel - Nottingham

An exploration I did in an old, abandoned train tunnel in 1876 in Nottingham. It was difficult finding this place, but I got there in the end and was very excited when I saw the entrance of the tunnel in the distance between some trees. It wasn’t an easy place to find, being in the middle of some woods and hidden out of the way from the public eye. But was worth the effort and a relic found. I had to take careful steps through the very muddy and slippery entrance first to get to the beginning of the dark tunnel. With just a bit of light from my torch I felt intimidated by the darkness when I looked through the entrance, but I knew I had to do this and get to the end and back. I thought about the tunnel being haunted and this leads me into the idea about what music I could create from this and so I produced a post-industrial music track that I thought suited the dark scenery and not forgetting the anxiety felt when at the far end that was blocked off the sound design captured that feeling well. Click below to watch on YouTube: P.S. Uncensored & unprofessional I got there in the end ;-)

Exploring inside 41 Pilcher Gate - Nottingham

After creating my last video that was themed around Urban Exploring I developed a bit of an interest in these abandoned places that have been left to rot whilst our cities change around these old decaying structures, if the walls of these dark places could talk!I came across this building that was just around the corner from my place of study and was given a permission visit on the basis that photos were used for my studies. The place of historical interest is called '41 Pilcher Gate' and was being renovated.

The building has been left derelict for up to 20 years and extends over a basement, ground and two upper stories over approximately 8000sqft. It is known to be the oldest residential building in the City Centre. Built in the 17th century, this three-storey town house was part of the rich merchant's houses of Nottingham.

My second music video titled Dark Industrial - 2016

I was a Music Technology BA Graduate when I produced this music video in 2016. It was shown at Nottingham Contemporary art center that same year. I based the project around derelict buildings and their decaying structures and Industrial Drum & Bass music. A friend and myself recorded the video day and night, but mostly I was alone exploring these abandoned buildings in my hometown Nottingham. The first abandoned building was near to where I lived and is called Great Northern Railway Corn warehouse. The other location was a place called Kimberly Brewery in Nottinghamshire. It was my second go at video production in which I gave the end result a shitty quality look, because I think it looks unsettling. I am from the 80s and I love the quality of those cheap horror nasties on tape and so thought I'd try and add that a little in somewhere.

Watch the whole video on YouTube.

My first music video titled Dark Tourist - 2015

This project was about having a look into Nottingham’s dark past. Visiting historical places that are associated with death, tragedy, and historical value. That is the nature of dark tourism. The project is comprised of video clips mixed together creatively and in sync with my own music track, which is called Dark Tourist. The locations in the music video are Rock Cemetery, Galleries of Justice, Nottingham castle, and Mortimer’s Hole. These locations are not only known for their grisly pasts but are also known for their paranormal qualities. I was joined by a friend and fellow photographer/ghost-hunter James Pykett, who contributed some of his photos for the video and some of the video was recorded on a ghost hunting event at night. The video and music has been recorded, edited and arranged by myself. Click below to watch on YouTube:
